| On September 25, I embarked on my journey to
visit our Rauck "homeland". First, visiting the original house foundation of our
ancestor Matthias Rauck in Bruck an der Mur in Styria, Austria. (After experiencing
Oktoberfest in München!) Then a visit the home of Andreas Rauck, our immigrant
grandfather, in the town of Rödermark. After that, a visit to Fulda, the town where
our first cousin, 9x's removed, Casparas Rauck, served as mayor of Fulda for 56 1/2 years
and helped with the planning and reconstruction of the well-known cathedral in Fulda. A
Rauck "Kaffee" was held in Rödermark on October 3rd, German Unification Day. In
my research of Germany, I've learned that German Unification Day is pretty much just
another day off from work and not really celebrated - but we celebrated it as the
unification of the US and German Rauck Cousins! |
